Model United Nations Strategic Framework is a unique opportunity to acquire negotiation skills and rigorous knowledge on multilateralism and the Korean peninsula.
Model UNSF consists of a 3-day seminar. The participants will be accomodated during these 3 days.
The first day will include a visit at the DMZ in Paju where we will have the opportunity to see North Korea, followed by a visit to the National Institute for Unification Education where participants will attend lectures from experts. The second day will be dedicated to a Model UN simulation. Finally, the last day will be an opportunity for the participants to reflect on social integration thanks to workshops and talks.
The MUN taking place on the second day differs from other MUNs by the composition of its committees and by its final goal. The delegates' objective is not to write a resolution, but to rewrite the UN Strategic Framework. This document shapes the actions of the UN in North Korea and is the result of an agreement between the government of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and the various UN agencies. This is why the committees will not consist of agencies but of Strategic Priority (specific goals of the document) and in each committee, the delegates will represent the government of North Korea as well as the various UN agencies taking part in the writing of this text. The South Korean delegation will also be represented, to promote inter-Korean dialogue. During the morning, the delegates will thus have to rewrite the specific goal of the UN Strategic Framework which has been assigned to their committee. In the afternoon, all the committees will merge to have Assembly sessions and to write the entire final document of the Strategic Framework.
This particular composition will allow delegates to have more in-depth debates as well as a different point of view of the little-known functioning of UN agencies.
Since we want the delegates to speak about substantive subjects, we expect them to know the rules and the functioning of MUN for the second day. That’s why we will have both on-line and off-line sessions in January for those needing to be trained on MUN.
The combination of visits, conferences, MUN, workshops and discussions will give the participants the tools to take a comprehensive approach to geopolitical issues linked to the Korean peninsula, and more generally to the UN machine.
All of these activities (meals and accomodation included!) will be free, and you will receive a certificate of participation, so let’s jump into the MUNSF adventure all together!
