In 2008, a group of students from Escola Parque, in Rio de Janeiro, created a Model UN which would be based at their own school. It was one of the first Model UN in Rio to be organized solely by non-undergraduate students. In its roots, MODEP was focused on training Escola Parque's students for the university UN models in Brazil. However, as time passed by, MODEP grew bigger and bigger, and, in 2012, during its 5th edition, the event became open for high school students from other institutions and undergraduate students from universities from all around Brazil. In 2015, MODEP received more delegates than ever before, with more than 150 participants in five committees, consolidating itself as the biggest Model UN organised by school students in Rio de Janeiro.
