The Premier European Crisis MUN Conference

What is LSEMUN?

The London School of Economics and Political Science’s United Nations Society founded the European Crisis circuit in 2006 with LSEMUN. It has become one of the largest and most prestigious Crisis-centric conferences in the world. 

What is Crisis MUN?

Crisis is a variant of Model UN’s traditional format that places the onus on dynamism, strategy, and real-time developments. The end result is a simulation of policymaking during a crisis. As such, the conference is an unparalleled opportunity to deepen one’s knowledge on issues while developing transferable skills in collaboration, debate, nimble strategizing, and public speaking.

  • Crisis: UK House of Commons

    20 seats · Intermediate · English
    It's 2028: the Labour-Liberal Democrat Coalition has collapsed, the Labour Party is planning a Leadership Election and a General Election is coming up. But no matter who wins, there is a big crisis incoming, one of a national scale: a hostage situation in Buckingham Palace. The perpetrators are a group of Georgian nationalists known as Svoboda, who are demanding Britain do more than simply finance their movement against the pro-Russian junta government, and instead get involved directly within the Georgian Civil War. With various hostages in the building, including members of the Royal Family, and an unknown number of hostage takers, the new government and Parliament will have to work hand-in-hand in order to find a solution to this grand national issue. Should the government follow through with the demands and get involved in the war to save the Royals? Or is it too risky to start a war with Russia? Negotiation, diplomacy and deception will be key methods for delegates to consider if they want to save the hostages. You must act decisively in order to solve this issue - in this case, move beyond party lines, find an effective solution, and save the King.

    In the near future, Air Force One has been hijacked by Svoboda terrorists. The terrorists demand that the U.S. comes to the aid of Georgia in its ongoing Civil War. The President, First Lady, and a number of staffers are being held hostage and the President’s cabinet is tasked with their rescue. The cabinet can use diplomatic, military, and other measures to achieve a safe rescue of the President and his staff. However, the Cabinet should consider whether it wishes for the United States to become involved in the Georgian Civil War. Deception will be a key element of the crisis.

This committee is suited to delegates with little to no crisis experience and who are more comfortable in a traditional MUN environment. By the end, delegates should be comfortable with crisis format, and will hopefully enjoy the partially organised chaos.

As major exporting countries, the two have begun to increasingly compete over whom is to take over more of the world market. With two contenders, competing prices, and constant innovations, states internationally are quick to pick sides based on political alliances, past histories, and strategic thinking. In this game of money, power, and politics what began as a dispute of soft power, could quickly spiral out of control. With old boarder disputes, increasingly dangerous shows of strength, space parades, weaponization of medical innovation, and cut-throat development in the military sectors the two powerhouses start finding new ways to battle out old clashes. Where will the line go? Who will dominate in each sect of the economy? And will this economic domination morph into a political one? Will international alliance structures stay immutable? Or are great economic deals too good to stay loyal for? With only one spot for an Asian supergiant, who will the international community cast their vote for? And can this ‘election’ be made without descent into violence? Join and you can decide…
