Yet, deep-seated rivalries and tensions persist, and the Houthi blockade in the Red Sea continues to escalate the crisis. The Arab League, recognizing the urgent need for a sustainable resolution, convenes to address the Yemeni Civil War. This committee will explore the potential resolutions to achieve peace and stability in Yemen, considering the interests of all involved parties and the implications for Middle East security.

Le Conseil économique et social des Nations Unies (ECOSOC) se réunit pour examiner l’impact des dynamiques prédatrices sur le développement économique et la stabilité politique de l’Afrique. Depuis des siècles, les ressources naturelles africaines sont exploitées par des puissances étrangères, compromettant la souveraineté économique des États africains, exacerbant les tensions politiques, alimentant des conflits armés, et contribuant à la recrudescence des coups d’État dans la région. Les délégués seront appelés à analyser cette problématique sous l’angle d’un double défi : comment attirer les investissements nécessaires au développement économique des États africains tout en empêchant les pratiques d’exploitation et de prédation ? À travers leurs débats, ils devront formuler des solutions innovantes visant à équilibrer les intérêts économiques et la protection des ressources locales, dans l’objectif de promouvoir un développement durable et respectueux de la souveraineté des nations africaines.

In 1900, growing unrest against foreign influence and imperial control erupted into the Boxer Rebellion, a nationalist uprising led by the "Society of the Righteous and Harmonious Fists." Decades of unequal treaties, economic exploitation, and cultural interference by Western powers fueled this rebellion as the Boxers targeted foreign residents, missionaries, and Chinese Christians. In response, an eight-nation alliance—including Japan, Russia, Germany, the United States, France, the United Kingdom, Austria-Hungary, and Italy—dispatched forces to crush the rebellion and protect their legations. This committee will explore the complex implications of imperial interest, nationalism, and the struggle for Chinese sovereignty, marking a turning point in diplomacy and the balance of power in East Asia.

Défendre Constantinople

About the committee

Nous sommes le 15 février 1451. L’Empire byzantin, réduit à Constantinople et ses environs immédiats, est au bord du précipice. Le sultan ottoman Mehmed II, monté sur le trône l’an passé, a instauré un blocus autour de la ville, érigé des fortifications, et massé ses troupes aux portes des derniers territoires grecs du Bosphore. L’Empereur Constantin XI Paléologue, conscient de la gravité de la situation, a réuni un Cabinet de Guerre pour organiser la défense de Constantinople et tenter de sauver ce qui reste de l’Empire. Ce cabinet rassemble les principaux soutiens de Byzance, malgré leurs divergences. L’arrivée du cardinal Isidore de Kiev, envoyé par le Pape Nicolas V, a ravivé les espoirs d’une aide occidentale, mais les divisions internes et les tensions avec les Latins compliquent la situation. Le Cabinet byzantin doit faire face à une infériorité numérique criante, à des ressources limitées, à de profondes divisions, mais il lui faut surtout résister aux puissantes armées ottomanes déterminées à conquérir la ville.

Yet, his role and responsibility have remained controversial. How should a sovereign be prosecuted, if at all, and what legal basis? The International Military Tribunal for the Far East must navigate the delicate balance between justice and limitations of international law in a world still recovering from war's devastation.
