The 4 Programs

The LAU Simulation Models, Lebanon’s oldest & largest simulation conferences, are a set of four locally and internationally renowned leadership programs that allow middle school and high school students to foster their interpersonal skills and enhance their public speaking, research, and negotiation techniques.

GC LAU Model United Nations (GCLAUMUN)

GC LAU MUN, launched in 2005 offers high school and middle school students the opportunity to simulate the proceedings of an actual United Nations conference. Students are introduced to the foundations of the United Nations, the flow of the procedure and debate of a typical UN conference, as well as important soft skills that will advance their professional development. By joining MUN, students get the chance to experience prominent challenges faced by the United Nations, global power dynamics, and how international diplomats debate cross-cutting world issues facing the international community.

In GC LAU MUN:

  • English is the language of instruction
  • Both middle school & high school students can participate
  • 2 training sessions and a mock simulation are held to prepare students for the final conference

Over a two-day conference, students will embody an ambassador of a certain member state partaking in a debate within a particular UN body or agency.

Registration is open for both:

  • School Delegations (endorsed and accompanied by a school advisor)
  • Individual Delegates (registering alone and not accompanied by their school)

LAU Model Arab League (LAUMAL)

In association with the National Council on US Arab Relations (NCUSAR) since 2011, MAL introduces high school students to the structure, history, and proceedings of the Arab League, and helps them develop various interpersonal skills that needed to devise tangible solutions to questions faced by Arab diplomats on a daily basis. Through the program, students engage in critical debates exploring prominent social, political, and economic issues currently affecting the Arab world.

In LAU MAL:

  • Arabic and English are the languages of instruction
  • Both middle school & high school students can participate
  • 2 training sessions and a mock simulation are held to prepare students for the final conference

Over a two-day conference, students will roleplay as representatives of the 22 Arab League member states and prominent actors in the region addressing pressing concerns to the region within an AL conference.

Registration is open for both:

  • School Delegations (endorsed and accompanied by a school advisor)
  • Individual Delegates (registering alone and not accompanied by their school)

LAU Model European Union (LAUMEU)

Running since 2015 in partnership with the Bringing Europeans Together Association (BETA), MEU invites students to explore the European Union and its strategic and geographic potential as well as the dynamics between the EU Member States at the commercial, cultural, and social levels to understand the primordial nature of the European continent in world politics. Through the program, high school students have the opportunity to represent various European Union member states and prominent figures in a simulation of European Union institutions, learning about the European Union’s history and structure, and the flow of the procedure and debate of a typical EU conference.

In LAU MEU:

  • French and English are the languages of instruction
  • High school students can participate
  • 2 training sessions and a mock simulation are held to prepare students for the final conference

Over a two-day conference, students will represent a Member of the European Parliament, a Head of State, or a European minister in coming up with policy recommendations for prominent issues facing the European Union.

Registration is open for both:

  • School Delegations (endorsed and accompanied by a school advisor)
  • Individual Delegates (registering alone and not accompanied by their school)

LAU Model Good Governance (LAUMGG)

Launched in 2020 in collaboration with the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom (FNF), MGG aims to educate Lebanese high school students about the principles of good governance and their application in Lebanon as well as empower them to find innovative solutions to the most pressing economic, political, and social issues facing the country. The simulation model helps students come to a better understanding of the state of governance in Lebanon, inviting them to come up with sustainable reforms and policy recommendations to resolve current issues in the country.

In LAU MGG:

  • English is the language of instruction
  • High school students can participate
  • 2 training sessions and a mock simulation are held to prepare students for the final conference

Over a two-day conference, students will represent a certain international organization or non-governmental organization partaking in a debate within a specific Lebanese Ministry.

Registration is open for both:

  • School Delegations (endorsed and accompanied by a school advisor)
  • Individual Delegates (registering alone and not accompanied by their school)
  •

*This opportunity is given through an additional assessment process to winners of the “Distinguished Performance Awards” only - after the conclusion of all conferences!
