University Students

Join us in the land between the seas.

KielMUN is a Model United Nations (MUN) Conference organized by students for students at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel (Kiel University) since 2019. Its goal is to give students both from Kiel University as well as from our partner Universities an insight into the work of the United Nations while practicing their personal, social, and professional skills. As a coastal city with a strong maritime focus and a large university, Kiel offers a unique and varied scope of focus for such a conference. The conference is estimated to have about 50 participants overall.

In its first four iterations, KielMUN was repeatedly hosted as an Ocean Conference. In 2023, this focus was broadened by simulating the UN Human Rights Council. For the 2024 conference, KielMUN will be a simulation of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Committee discussing a provisional agenda comprising the topics of:

  1. Enforcing Articles 32 and 33 of the 1951 Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees.
  2. Protecting Children from Human Trafficking in Maritime Migration.

These topics will allow all participating students to discuss highly relevant issues of our time from a wide variety of viewpoints, depending on their assigned countries of representation. At the same time, the topics offer the opportunity to draw from Kiel Universities’ specific expertise by inviting guest speakers from various specialized institutes localized at the University. The evenings will be used for social events.
