THE FUTURE WE WANT - Finding Ways into an Equal, Sustainable and Just Tomorrow
Thinking about the future we want may seem a tremendous task, finding ways to solve all the problems and difficulties coming to our minds while wondering about how we want the world to become may seem even more difficult, impossible even at times. But there is one thing we have to keep in mind. As one of the most famous and honored persons – Nelson Mandela once said: ‘It always seems impossible until it’s done.’
In the coming years, the decisions we make will be crucial: Scientists predict that the way we exploit and treat the earth cannot go on forever. While politicians debate about how to solve these conflicts, most still have their national interests at heart and many cooperations just keep on going as long as they can, still trading short-time profit for long-term sustainability. It is up to our generation to step up our game for a world without unsustainable production chains, human rights violations and civil wars. This year the HamMUN therefore aims to have a look at the ‘bigger picture’ trying to integrate the main topics related to a bright new future.
So to quote Nelson Mandela once again: ‘Let us stand together to make of our world a sustainable source for our future as humanity on this planet.’
