Dear MUN Director and MUN Advisor,
We are proud to announce the first DISDHMUN conference, which will be held on Friday, October 7th 2022. The DISDHMUN conference is meant for delegates between the age of 14 and 19 years.
Although the German International School The Hague (DISDH) is a rather small school among the international schools in The Hague, it has always had a large, persistent, and thriving MUN community. Participation in numerous local and international conferences around the world and continuous involvement in the THIMUN conference at the World Forum, right in front of our school building, led DISDH to organize our first Model United Nations conference.
After organizing a successful conference for DISDH students last year, we have received internal and external inquiries to organize a public conference this year in October as well.
Now we can say with confidence that we are very much looking forward to welcoming other schools to experience this unprecedented opportunity for our school.
With our conference, we hope to create the perfect atmosphere, for students to get to know each other, develop public speaking skills as well as practice debate and diplomatic conduct.
We want to encourage interest in politics and socially relevant issues while creating an environment where exchange and cooperation have a place.
The conference offers an opportunity for all delegates to discuss current socio-political issues from around the world.
The theme of the 1st DISDHMUN conference, Leading the world towards greater solidarity and community through promoting peace and justice, targets creating a brighter and more responsible future. Our theme is based on the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals as we will concentrate on issues regarding reducing inequalities, increasing partnership, and addressing the challenges of conflict through peace and justice.
Martin Luther King Jr. once stated: “True peace is not merely the absence of tension: it is the presence of justice”.
There is no peace without justice while justice cannot be achieved without forgiveness and sympathy. Therefore, the necessity for a sturdy and reliable partnership to find impactful solutions to fundamental conflicts is great. In order to create good relations and healthy partnerships, we need to reduce inequalities to increase mutual acceptance of each other and recognize our counterparts as equals.
Development and progress are central to our society today. However, this is only possible under fair conditions that are conducive to sustainable change. At this conference, we will discuss how we can move towards a fairer society that has justice for all as its goal. Together we will try to share powerful and effective ideas for a better future.
For more experienced delegates with an interest in history, we offer the Historical Security Council which deals with 1979 and the issues of ending the Angolan-South African conflict and American diplomates held hostage in Iran as well as the Advisory Panel on the Question of North Korea’s nuclear weapons program. In addition, our Press Team is a great option for less experienced students who still want to attend a Model United Nations conference.
We are looking forward to meeting you at our conference for an exciting time of exchange and debate under the roof of the promotion of peace and justice.
