Establishing Our Future
A Word from the Secretary-General
Honorable delegates, esteemed chairs, student officers, faculty advisors, and distinguished guests,
Welcome to DAEMUN IV!
My name is Claire Ohk, a junior at Dwight School Seoul, and it is my privilege to serve you as your Secretary-General at the fourth iteration of Dwight School Seoul’s annual DAEMUN conference. We are more than excited to welcome delegates from all over the world after more than two years of the global pandemic and announce that this conference will be held ONLINE from April 22-23 in Seoul, South Korea.
After two years of hardships due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have been given the opportunity to take a critical turning point in DAEMUN's history this year by transitioning back to an in-person conference. Therefore, the motto for DAEMUN IV is “Establishing Our Future.” Our motto incorporates what we hope to form in our conference: a unique experience that will establish a starting point for a stronger future. We hope to bring an atmosphere where delegates can show respect and empathy to diverse world views, earn social experience where delegates can form new relationships and friendships, and create committees that underline the importance and need of the solvency of global issues through diplomacy.
Just like the meaning of our conference, DAEMUN, synonymous with 대문 (大門), or a big door, we aspire that this conference to become a gateway and open door for delegates to participate and interact with other delegates with an open mindset, and be able to establish our future further in our society. This year, we have expanded our committees to include the General Assembly, Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), Security Council (SC), and WHO (World Health Organization) to provide a diverse inclusivity of committees and topics for delegates with diverse interests.
I hope that the contemporary conflicts and issues in our world, ranging from Lethal Autonomous Weapons, climate change, the Tigray and Russo-Ukraine War, to global sustainable development, that me and my secretariats have chosen will be fruitfully debated within each respective committee.
We look forward to welcoming you to our conference online in April!
If you have any additional questions, please email myself or our advisor (firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com) for more information.
On behalf of our team, once again, welcome to DAEMUN IV
