About CUIMUN 2024
The Art of Alliances: Achieving Stability through Global Cooperation
Historically, opposing alliances, like the Entente and Central Powers or NATO and the Warsaw Pact, had been considered the source of polarity, international tensions and wars. Such a tendency of the alliances to distort stability continues up to the present which is seen in the division of the modern-day world into the US-aligned countries, the Russian-Chinese-Iranian bloc and the Global South. Under these circumstances, it is impossible for the UN to achieve unity in promoting its goals by means of diplomacy.
Therefore, the 27th edition of CUIMUN aims to reshape the understanding of alliances in the 21st century by showing that they can be the tool for securing peace and stability through cross-border cooperation. A global alliance of countries could collaborate to achieve common goals, such as geopolitical, nuclear and space security, elimination of ethnic and gender-based discrimination or reduction of economic and social inequalities. This may remedy the increasing multipolarity.
During a three days long conference taking place at the historic University of Cambridge, 500 delegates from all around the world will debate on ways to enhance global cooperation and prevent further division of countries into rival blocs. CUIMUN 2024 features 18 committees, including old favourites (Security Council, General Assembly, International Court of Justice and Historical Crisis) as well as new additions (UN Specialised Agencies and NATO). Moreover, for the first time the delegates will transfer to the dystopian world of Panem and represent its 13 districts in the Hunger Games Council.
The participants will also enjoy unforgettable social events ranging from an iconic Formal Hall to a dance night and compete for prestigious awards.
