This experience is guaranteed to be both educational and inspirational for delegates, who will leave thinking about the crises around the globe and various solutions to those problems. COMMUN is not only a great place to nurture those thoughts, but one in which you are encouraged to open your mind and see what is happening in the world.
This year, we are excited to announce another fresh assortment of fun and thought-provoking committees. Delegates in the World Health Organization (WHO) will be discussing the availability of clean drinking water in impoverished and drought-prone regions. The Security Council (UNSC) will be debating the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and thinking of new solutions that take into account recent developments in global politics. The UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) will be tackling the complex and deeply troubling issue of child refugees and their safety. In our first ever specialized committee, the Council of Europe (CoE) will be discussing the rights of the Roma, a minority group living across the continent.
We will also be offering three crisis committees this year. In our two-room Mexican-American War joint crisis committee (JCC), delegates will represent politicians and generals on both sides of the conflict, as well as the leaders of several indigenous groups inhabiting the contested territory. In our Sengoku Jidai (Japanese warring states period) crisis, delegates will represent the various daimyo of important clans in the struggle to unite (or destroy) Japan. Our third crisis is a two-room JCC set in the world of James Cameronโs science-fiction film Avatar.
