Changes to the Security Council, the most influential part of the United Nations, have long been a subject of debate. Any such changes would, without question, be of great impact to the world at large. Because of that, every country has a unique agenda to pursue, based on their country policy as a whole. Resolving issues such as the possible expansion of permanent membership, the increase or limitation of veto powers, as well as other changes, will constitute the goal of this committee.

Resolving the issue of drug-and-arms-smuggling migrants with emphasis on the US-Mexico border

About the committee

Globalization and the loosening of borders has allowed international trade, cooperation and relations to prosper, but it has also contributed to the issue of drug-and-arms-smuggling across countries. Seeing as this poses an imminent and continually worsening threat, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime must act to protect public safety and security. The objective of this committee will be to ensure a balance between enforcing strict border security measures to prevent smuggling and guarding the rights and safety of migrants.

Restoring peace in the former Yugoslavia

About the committee

September 1993. The Owen-Stoltenberg plan for Bosnia and Herzegovina was just recently rejected, while fighting in Dalmatia and parts of Krajina have resumed in Croatia. For now, it is absolutely clear that the war is ongoing and that it is necessary to bring forth some form of agreement to stop combat operations for a longer period of time, if not, preferably, permanently. The longer the war lasts, the longer the region, as well as Europe itself, remain unstable, and the longer they will later need to recover. The objective of this committee is to see if it is possible to bring upon peace and tranquility in lands which are now turning bitter.

About the committee

The Crisis Committee (CC) sees delegates come face to face with changing, real-time scenarios. Where a normal committee discusses a revealed topic, CC plunges delegates straight into a crisis situation, with no prior preparation, and asks them to act effectively and immediately. This is a simulation of the greatest challenge real diplomats face: quickly solving problems that develop constantly as they are being discussed.

Reporting on CEMUN 2025

About the committee

The Press Corps is an irregular committee representing various news and TV outlets usually present at diplomatic conferences. The delegates of the committee act as CEMUN’s journalists, reporting on various events during the conference, related to both debate proceedings and events within the participant community. During their time at the conference, they visit the other committees and conduct interviews, record proceedings, and conduct press conferences with the other delegates to grant the rest of the conference more insight into the happenings of each committee. Working in teams of two, and assisted by dedicated multimedia support staff, the delegates of the Press Corps then publish various pieces of media on the conference website, bringing the conference together and expanding the reach and significance of individual committees among CEMUN’s attendees.
