“I can’t imagine attending a conference without my brother by my side.”

MUN Stars - Jakub and Matus Zachar

Ever thought about taking your siblings to a MUN conference? I’ve been low-key begging my sisters to come with me for ages, but they keep hitting me with that “nah, not for me” vibe. Like, come on, girls! You know we’d absolutely slay together. But, I guess deep down, I get it. Maybe they’re not ready for that level of awesomeness. But don´t worry, I love them and respect their decision.
So, let me tell you about Jakub and Matus, two 17-year-old brothers who are absolutely crushing it in the MUN game. They’ve been hustling in MUN for about a year now, leading their own MUN club in Havana, Cuba, and they’ve attended six international conferences so far. Talk about dedication! When Agnese told me about them at one of our meetings, I was so hyped by their stories that I didn’t even hesitate to hit them up for an interview.
They started the MUN club at their school because there was literally no MUN program to begin with. They were like, “We’re gonna change that.” After hopping on mymun.com, they attended their first international conference in Toronto. "In the beginning, we didn’t fully grasp the procedures," they said, “but over time we got familiar, and we started attending conferences in Toronto, Istanbul, and Vienna." And now? They’re practically experts.
It’s true, MUN in Europe vs. North America is like comparing apples and oranges. In Europe, the vibe is more about enjoying yourself, while in North America, everything is much more competitive and serious, always focusing on performance. But what Jakub and Matus say really makes sense:

"If you’re genuinely enjoying the experience and trusting yourself, everything else will fall into place. The more you focus on winning, the more stressed you get."

Being a delegate at mymun is everything for them. “It’s not just about representing your country, but about making connections, and being part of the community”. Jakub and Matus always end up in the same committees, and that just makes the whole thing even better. That’s the dream!
I totally get the dynamic they have. As a triplet, I’ve always wanted to do everything with my siblings, and it’s so cool to see them thrive in something they’re so passionate about. Even though my sisters aren't vibing with the whole MUN thing (yet), I can’t help but admire the bond Jakub and Matus have. It’s pretty clear that the best moments happen when you're alongside people who get you and have your back. Maybe one day my sisters will join the MUN crew, and we’ll crush it like Jakub and Matus. Fingers crossed.
