SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

QUESTION OF: Climate agreements and sustainable energy sources

Due to the limited space of our country we have few natural resources. We have a semi-arid climate, a high population growth and resource scarcity. Our main environmental related problems are the following: air pollution, water pollution, water shortages, population density and lost of open space, water disposal, species extinction and death of the Dead Sea.

Israel has been a Party to the UNFCCC since 1996 and to the Kyoto Protocol since 2004, it was considered a developing, or non-Annex 1 country. Thus, it was not legally obligated to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
