POSITION PAPER – CLIMATE CHANGE SUMMIT In the 21st century Cambodia has been, and still is, one of the fastest-growing countries in Asia, with an average GDP growth of 7.7% between 2001 and 2010. The previous situation of the economy in our country was terrible, as we had not yet fully recovered from the brutal regime of Pol Pot’s Khmers Rouges. Consequently, the government’s priorities on the dawn of the 21st century were to improve the quality of life of its impoverished citizens. Environmental protections were, as a result, left aside.
