History of the Issue and Key Areas of Discussion The underrepresentation, discrimination and inequality towards women in STEM is not a female problem, it is a global problem. With the percentage of women in the work force, only half of it are STEM workers. Issues such as not receiving enough exposure to STEM from an early age, the underrepresentation of women in that field, and the still present social stigma/gender gap surrounding the STEM workforce really affects whether a woman believes she can carry through a career there. On top of that, there are still many issues and reports on sexual harassment and wage gaps between men and women. It is important to break that gender gap and put in the minds of young girls that women belong in this field, just as much as men do. With more contribution from women in STEM, not only would it lessen the gender gap but it will majorly affect the advancements in the science world.
Country’s Stance The Russian Federation supports and encourages young girls to take interest in STEM subjects. Tracing back to the 1960s when this country’s priority was scientific and technological advancements, everyone was able to access the education of STEM subjects.
