Achieving Equality: Empowering Women in STEM/STEAM

In this rapidly developing world, the world population puts maximum effort to improve the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). The development of STEM in a certain country will increase the living standards of its citizens. This is the reason why every country aims to improve the fields of STEM. Amidst the continual advancement of STEM, there is an issue that is yet to be resolved. Gender inequality. Women are less likely to have a chance to receive education and pursue careers in these fields (STEM). In many countries, this is due to traditional and religious beliefs that limit the role of women in society. In some societies, women’s role are only to take care of the household. Nigeria has a National Gender Policy that focuses on women empowerment while also making a commitment to eliminate discriminatory practices that are harmful to women.
