Combating the use of social media by the so-called Islamic State (ISIS) in the recruitment and indoctrination of European Nationals

Honorable Chairs and distinguished delegates,

ISIS is currently at the forefront of religious extremism, waging war on freedom both personal and political. The destruction of the already distressed by war Syrian Republic, as well as the deeply disturbing display of beheadings and executions via the State’s social media outlets have left Japan deeply shaken as a nation. Moreover, the gravely serious nature of the threat ISIS poses to both international as well as Japanese national security have helped the Japanese government ascertain the importance of acting on this matter.
