Topic 1: Ending slavery and child labour in the chocolate trade


In February 1992, the Federal Republic of Germany ratified the Convention on the Rights of the Child, hoping that this will improve the situation of children worldwide. Even though, some efforts regarding child labour have been done, slavery and exploitation of children continues. This is especially the case in West Africa where is produced 69% of the world’s cocoa and where 64% of the workers are under the age of 14.
