Delegation of the Republic of Latvia Position Paper for the United Nation Human Rights Council at GöMUN 2017.

Latvia being a small Baltic country in Northern Europe has a regional and European approach to topics of international importance. Nevertheless, we strive to have also an input in accordance with our diplomatic tradition and national relevance. The country is a democracy with a functional Parliamentary Republic system and is very committed to strengthening human rights locally as well as internationally.

As of May 2004, Latvia is a member of the European Union and has worked towards harmonizing economical, legal and administrative issues with the rest of the EU members. The country is also a moderate old to new member of important international organizations such as; NATO, The Council of Europe, the IMF, OECD, OSCE, the WTO along with the membership here in the United Nations. We are also member of regional organizations such as; Nordic-Baltic Eight (NB8), Nordic Investment Bank (NIB) and the Council of the Baltic Sea States (CBSS).
