Country: Greece Honourable Chairs, Distinguished Delegates, There are many violations concerning children around the world, which destroy their life, limit their opportunities and cause adverse effects, depriving them of basic human rights and liberties. A common case of such a violation is the child bride practice, which still exists to a significant extent. Every year approximately 15 million girls are married as children across countries, cultures, religions and ethnicities. Child marriage is rooted in gender inequality and in the low value accorded to girls and is exacerbated by poverty, insecurity, and conflict. It denies girls their rights, choice, and participation. They become wives and mothers before they’re emotionally or physically ready and without sufficient healthcare provision, complications during pregnancy are too common.
