**Topic: Achieving sustainable development through employment and decent work for all

“If those in power... began working together we would eliminate abject poverty and ensure that poverty becomes history in twenty years from now. It’s a moral duty of any of us as human beings.” —José Ramos-Horta (Former President of Timor-Leste)

More than half of the world’s population still lives with US$2 a day (Sustainable Development Goals, 2016), not having the opportunity to escape from poverty. This slow and uneven progress requires us to rethink and retool our economic and social policies aimed at eradicating poverty through employment creation. Achieving sustainable development through employment creation and decent work for all is one of the main issues that need to get solved. It is the 8th Sustainable Development Goal that needs to be solved in accordance to what was stated during September 2015. The constant lack of decent work opportunities and the insufficient investments are leading to a dangerous erosion of the basic social contract.
