Sustainable development, characterized as “development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs”, is a guiding principle consisting of a total of 17 Sustainable Development Goals and 169 targets, all subdivided into the three aspects of sustainable development: the economic, social, and environmental.

The Sustainable Development Goal 8, “Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all”, states twelve development targets that are to be achieved by 2030. Said targets include, but are not limited to: sustain per capita economic growth in accordance with national circumstances; take immediate and effective measures to eradicate forced labour, end modern slavery and human trafficking and secure the prohibition and elimination of child labour; and protect labour rights and promote safe and secure working environments for all worke...
