The world today is much safer than it used to be, but wars are still raging in some areas, and violence is rampant in all kinds of forms, consequently children are deeply affected. But since the 1990 World Summit on Children, the United Nations has been making efforts to ensure that the international community will be able to focus on the plight of those who are suffering from armed conflict. Under the recommendation of the Committee on the rights of the child, the United Nations adopted the resolution 48/157 on December 20. In 1997, the United Nations “Children and armed conflict” representative office was established to study the impact of armed conflict on children.
