Topic: Improving the coordination of efforts against trafficking in persons.
Universal Declaration of Human Rights, 1948 declared the Right to live freely without any debt bondage, serfdom, forced marriage, forced labor, removal of organs and child exploitation. Despite the efforts and declaration, the slavery has changed the formed into modern slavery through Human trafficking. Human trafficking thus is not the problem of the countries being trafficked from and trafficked to. Human trafficking as stated by Palermo Protocol(1) has three elements.The ‘Means’ Element described as the use of force, abduction, fraud, deception for the process of trafficking. The ‘Purpose’ element, explaining the purpose of exploitation for the purpose of prostitution, sexual exploitation, forced labor, slavery, and organ removal. Finally, The ‘Act’ Element involving the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harboring or receipt of the person illegally.
The issue holds importance because the problem affects the entire population of the world. Despite the best effort to control the crime and its effect on the society, human trafficking has escalated the crime rate all over the world. The use of trafficked person in drug smuggling, prostitution, and other physical violence has lead to increased rate of HIV contaminant each year(2).
