The efforts to improve international understanding and cooperation in the fight against inequality, terror, social injustice and global insecurity make Belgium a country that actively strives for equality, justice, security and social peace.

Belgium is one of the founding Member States of the ECSC and the EEC, with Brussels being home to most of the EU institutions. Brussels is also the seat of NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization), which is another of the main axes behind Belgian foreign policy.

Belgium was one of the 26 original signatories who signed the first United Nations declaration together with the United States of America, the United Kingdom of Britain and Northern Ireland, the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, China, Australia, among others.

It is an authentic rule of law, its status is based on its main rule: the Constitution. Its fundamental principles are the right to private property, individual freedom, equality before the law, the rule of law and strong parliamentarism.
