Organized crime is a global issue that threatens the safety and lives of all world citizens. Transnational organized crime (TOC) comes in many forms such as drug trade, weapons trafficking, human trafficking, and money laundering. Every year, countless amounts of innocent lives are lost at the cost of criminals partaking in organized crime. Organized crime not only puts many lives at risk, but also increases the risks of government corruption, the infiltration of business and politics, and in the long run, hampers both social and economic development around the world. Because organized crime has now spread across multiple continents, each and every nation around the world is at risk. The Islamic Republic of Afghanistan has experienced the consequences of organized crime first hand. Terrorist organizations such as the Islamic Jihad Union (IJU), Al-Qaeda, the Taliban, and cyber terrorism groups have used TOC to supply them with funding, weapons, drugs, and even humans.
