Topic A : Regulation on treatment of refugees attempting to cross borders

The United Nations (UN) data showed that the number of refugees around the world have reached the highest record, where some 65.3 million people have left home to become refugees and asylum seeker. The crisis was worsened by the disparity in immigrant distribution on refugees and lack of responsibility of solidarityon EU, USA, and another developed countries to open the door or to provide assistance that’s too little now. Egypt and another neighboring countries faced with a migrants influx and in a difficult position to choose between maintaining national security on their citizens or with the human side to rescue refugees.

There have been many efforts that have been done by UNHCR to resolve this case through emergency help to those forced to flee as the first step of long term protection and rehabilitation through global operations; Migration control at sea to hamper smuggling and trafficking through sophia operations; Cooperation with NGOs and Amnesty International to raise awareness for states and citizens to help refugees; and Improving the implementation of the 1951 Convention and the 1967 Protocol on the Status of Refugees, human rights law, and the Convention on Civil and Political Rights to guarantee the protection of refugees and asylum seekers. But this seems less effective because of the lack of cooperation between the member countries.

Egypt has proved the contribution to the protection of refugees and asylum seekers to ratify the 1951 Convention and 1967 Protocol, and becoming the host of 4 million refugees from syria, sudan, ethiopia, somalia, Eritrea, Palestine, and Iraq.
