Topic A: Regulation on treatment of refugees attempting to cross borders
Morocco has ever since it became a member of the UN in 1956, maintained a firm and irreversible commitment towards contributing to the goals and principles of the organization, which converge with the fundamentals of our foreign policy and international action. Our country is located between Africa and Europe. Since the EU-Turkey deal, we have an increasing amount of Syrian and Iraqi refugees trying to reach Europe via our border with Spain. Besides, Morocco has a long history of serving as a transit country to Sub-Saharan refugees. Lately however, due to the fast development of our economy and our commitment to Human Rights, Morocco is turning into a host country.
For example, in 2013, our Parliament adopted a law on the temporary regularisation of all unauthorized migrants. Our Majesty the King Mohammed VI, may God assist him, has made the integration of refugees into the Moroccan community one of our priorities. Furthermore, this year, we have introduced a new law on human trafficking. This law precisely defines what constitutes a victim of trafficking and profoundly protects a victim. In fact, all nationalities are protected as long as the offence happens on Moroccan soil. Next, we are an international example in the fight against terrorism.
