Position Paper for the African Union by the Democratic Republic of the Congo

The Delegation of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (represented by the Heinrich-Heine-University Düsseldorf) presents its position on the following topics: Reducing violence in Central Africa between military and paramilitary groups and the recruitment of child soldiers (I.), and safeguarding exhaustible natural resources against foreign exploitation (II.).

I. Reducing violence in Central Africa between military and paramilitary groups and the recruitment of child soldiers

Deeply concerned with the issues related to the conflict between the different parties in the Central African civil war, including but not limited to the humanitarian issues, the exploitation of children by the armed forces and the violation of basic human rights in accordance with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) which was manifested in the General Assembly Resolution 217A. (A) Having already successfully established the Action Plan to Combat the Recruitment and Use of Children and Other Serious Violations of the Rights of the Child by the Armed Forces and Security Services of the Democratic Republic of the Congo on a national level, in cooperation with the United Nations Task Force on Children and Armed Conflict on the 4th of October 2012, as well as actively supporting the Worst Forms of Child Labour Convention (No. 182) of the International Labour Organization (ILO) in 2001, the delegation of the Democratic Republic o...
