Position Paper for the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB)
The topics before the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) are: Future Cooperation with the World Bank; and Managing Risk Across the One Belt, One Road (OBOR) Initiative. The Islamic Republic of Iran fully recognizes the fundamental role and importance of these issues and looks forward to working multilaterally with the member states of the AIIB in addressing them at the upcoming conference.
I. Future Cooperation with the World Bank
Future cooperation with the World Bank would enable the AIIB to fund both larger and more complex projects, while simultaneously minimizing its exposure to risk associated with individual projects. However, the institution was initially founded with the aim of taking a faster approach than its counterparts, in order to support the building of infrastructure in the Asia-Pacific region and to tackle an estimated $8 trillion of needed investment in rails, ports and power plants.
