Topic A: Countering terrorism and violent extremism
Over the last 15 years, the rise of terrorist groups has become a great threat to global security, causing thousands of deaths and injuries. It has ranged from international and domestic groups to self-radicalized individuals. This is now a new phenomenon: recruitment of members is done through social media and the internet. Thus, it is of utmost significance for international community and European states in particular to engage with each other and cooperate.
Currently, the Consolidated Framework for the Fight against Terrorism has been adopted by the OSCE in 2012,which helps its member states to identify focus points to combat terrorism and strengthen counter-terrorism capacities through various programs. Additionally, the international exchange of information has been made much easier which can be regarded as a valuable source of coordination of counter-terrorism effort.
