Position Paper for The UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR)

There are few topics that have received more attention internationally during the last year than the refugee crisis. Resulting of the war in Syria, political persecution and economic deficiencies in numerous countries, millions of people are fleeing their country and seeking a place to live across the sea in Europe. It is only natural that these current events are dominating media coverage; however, there are other aspects of the overall topic about refugees that have to be taken into consideration as well. Two examples are explained below and discussed from Costa Rica’s point of view, including possible solutions.

Topic 1: Refugees after crisis – assisting the return and reintegration of refugees

Being the most stable and wealthy country in Central America, Costa Rica naturally is a popular destination for migrants and refugees. In addition to this, it hosts a great number of people who are trying to reach the US border but have run out of money or whose visa applications cannot be processed by the US in time.
