Although Japan is geographically distant from the Middle East, our country believes that we have humanitarian responsibilities on ensuring world peace. Having suffered greatly from war within the last century, Japan possesses the growing belief that the world needs to transition to an era of progress, cooperation, and interdependence and is willing to work towards it. We have taken major steps in the past towards this dream of a better world using our technological innovations, economic growth, and diplomatic efforts, especially centered on peacemaking. We are willing to continue such efforts today.

 When it comes to the Islamic State crisis, there is no room for doubt in Japan’s concern for international security. For example, the matter was placed on the agenda of the G7 summit held in Japan last week.
