Following the end of the Millenium Development Goals (MDGs) period last year, a new universal set of goals has been adopted to mark the post-2015 agenda. These newly set-up goals, the Sustainable Development Goals or SDGs, differs from its predecessor in a way that it incorporates all three pillars of sustainable development which include economic growth, social progress, and environmental protection – crossing all sectors of the economy and society, from the local to global level. The SDGs are designed to be applicable for both developing and developed countries, in regards to the failures of the MDGs on achieving significant success in least-developed regions such as the Sub-Saharan Africa.
