It is a fact that climate change is one of the most serious challenges the world faces today. One of the main reasons behind this issue is because of the development of technology in manufacturing, beginning in the industrial revolution. From then on, our Earth has relied on fossil fuels as its main source of energy. Although this advancement has been undeniably beneficial to the world, it is also a main contributor to global warming that evidently leads to climate change. The increase in average global temperatures is what is referred to as global warming and climate change. The constant burning of fossil fuels emits an increasing amount of greenhouse gases, one of which is carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide plays a vital role in regulating Earth’s surface temperature through radiative forcing and the greenhouse effect (Petty, 2004). The National Geographic wrote that the concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is this high “for the first time in 55 years of measurement—and probably more than 3 million years of Earth history” (Kunzig, 2013). This particular human activity of burning fossil fuels is said to be the primary cause of global warming.
