During the last decades, horrific battles have scarred the archdiocese of Trier: The Swedes came to destroy and plunder, stealing holy objects from churches and only returning them for money. Herds of Frenchmen crossed the lands. All robbed, abused, and destroyed the people, land, and possessions. Hunger, sickness, and death were the consequence.
