The creation of the former nation of Yugoslavia was the start of the ongoing inter-ethnic conflicts in the region since numerous different ethnic groups, including the Croats and the Serbs, were united as one single state. The current state of Croatia is requesting the International Court of Justice to adjudge and declare that Serbia, formerly the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, is responsible for violations of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide.
