In general, the Netherlands supports the proposal made by the Commission in regards to transposing the recommendations of the FATF into the European Union’s Fourth Anti-Money Laundering Directive. When it comes to the Netherlands’ position vis-à-vis the Commission’s proposal, three main elements should be pointed out – as they are stipulated in the national Beoordeling Nieuwe Commissievoorstellen (Review of the Commission New Proposals).

Our country lies behind the principle that there should be the least possible difference between the FATF recommendations and the regulations in place in the EU Member States. As such, the Netherlands not only promotes a worldwide and uniform playground for preventing financial crimes and crime financing but is also willing to improve the reputation of the EU on the international stage in these specific matters.
