The Republic of Austria wants to amend the 2013 proposal made by the European Commission in two ways. First off, our Republic cannot agree to the proposal’s aim of enhancing ‘Europol’s role as a European law enforcement agency’. This would mean that Europol would be allowed to contact national authorities directly in all cases, without going through the ‘Europol national units’. Moreover, it must be noted that this proposal could pave the way for a more inclusive legislation on a unified police force.
