After over two decades of the First International Conference on Nutrition (ICN), a remarkable amount of progress has already been achieved in reducing world hunger by half in all developed and several developing countries. According to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), the number of malnourished people in developing regions reduced by 42% between 1990-92 and 2012-14. Despite such amelioration, more needs to be done in orde​r to eradicate world hunger completely by 2030 and make food available and accessible to all ensuring nutritional security at the same time. There are still about 780 million people in developing countries and an additional 11 million persons in developed nations affected by malnutrition.

Italy as a country has made substantial progress in the area of food security and nutrition, and is ranked 22nd by the Global Food Security Index (GFSI) for affordability, availability, quality and safety of food. Italy is also one of the top 10 countries for quality of food product...
