The Middle East Nuclear Weapon Free Zone (MENWFZ) is a United Nations driven proposal to prohibit nuclear weapon in the Middle East. Though steps towards the establishment of such a zone began in the 1960, till today, the zone is not established because of the refusal of certain states to ratify it. Historically, Paraguay has been cooperative with international attempts at nuclear non-proliferation and the disarmament of weapons of mass destruction. Paraguay is recognised as a Non-Nuclear Weapon State. It has signed and ratified the comprehensive test ban treaty. Paraguay also signed the Convection on the Prohibition of the Development, Production, Stockpiling and Use of Chemical weapons and on their destruction on January 14th 1993.
