TOPIC A: ISLAMOPHOBIA Islamophobia is a term that is widely used to delineate preconceptions and discrimination that is made against the religion of Islam and the society that follows it. As known to all, the menacing of Islamophobia is a growing threat to world peace and co-existence. Past UN confrences include delegates from Islamic countries, approaching and denouncing to the United Nations Human Rights Council that treatment of Muslims in Western countries amounted to racism and discrimination and must be fought. Acting for the OIC, Pakistan had tabled a resolution at the council instructing its special investigator on religious freedom "to work closely with mass media organizations to ensure that they create and promote an atmosphere of respect and tolerance for religious and cultural diversity".

Azerbaijan holds a population of over 90% that are nominally Muslim and the rest of the population adheres to other faiths or are non-religious, although they are not officially represented. Among the Muslim majority, religious observance varies and Muslim identity tends to be based more on culture and ethnicity rather than religion.
