Burkina Faso is a religiously diverse society with Islam being the dominant religion. The vast majority of Muslims in Burkina Faso are Malikite Sunni, deeply influenced with Sufism. Therefore, the statement of islamophobia: dislike of or prejudice against Islam or Muslims, especially as a political force is not evident in Burkina Faso.

However, recent extremist attacks have sparked a threat in the religious harmony existing in Burkina Faso. Unlike many countries around the world, Burkina Faso has managed the extraordinary achievement of connecting its two main religions in a cultural melting pot.
