The Republic of South Africa is deeply concerned with the discussion topics of: First, future developments as a result of the reemergence of Iran in the global oil market due to the lifting of international sanctions. As well as second, the implications of the creation of the New Development Bank as yet another development bank formed by emerging countries. The following position paper will therefore outline South Africa’s contemporary stance concerning these developments and then provide a standpoint as well as policy recommendations regarding the outlined discussion topics. Generally, the Republic of South Africa holds an important position as a coordination force between developing and developed countries and aims at supporting a well framed shift towards a just and efficient type of multilateralism, especially in the sector of development finance.
