The malian state is facing many structural issues due to a geographical area full of threat and challenge. It needs a peaceful global environment to develop its economy which remains week despite of a strong economic growth the last years. As an actor of the International community, Mali is part of the NPT, and participate to the aim of the treaty by being a member state of the Pelindaba Treaty. Signed in 1996, this treaty creats a Nuclear Weapon Free Zone (NWFZ) in Africa, and is effective since July 15th, 2009.
