Topic A: Missile Defence
Missile Defence has always been a hot topic for contention among both political and military circles. In the past, before missile defence was developed, countries would generally attempt to keep their nuclear stockpiles in the hope that Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD) was enough to deter other countries from attacking them through the use of missiles. However, as time passed, many countries such as the United States of America (USA) and the then USSR, began advancing greatly in terms of missile technology, by developing Inter-Continental Ballistic Missiles (ICBMs) during the Cold War era. While ICBMs at that era had limited accuracy, technology has advanced to the point where ICBMs have a Circular Error Probable (CEP) as low as 50 metres, which means that ICBMs can easily target small cities with ease.
