The alarming mortality associated with waterborne diseases calls for a committed international response. Incidence of water-related illnesses can be greatly reduced by ensuring a supply of uncontaminated drinking water as well as sanitation facilities. While the Republic of India recognises the accomplishment of target C of the Millennium Development Goal 7, we note that the obstacles of insufficient infrastructure and the risk of regression in communities where facilities have been installed remain.
