Guatemala is in the middle of an HIV/AIDS concentrated epidemic, and has been for decades. We have initiatives that help prevent the transmission of HIV/AIDS, but that does nothing to help the people who already have contracted the terrible disease. The disease is currently concentrated within specific groups, notably sex workers, homosexual men, patients with tuberculosis, socially at-risk youth, and those in prison. The prevalence is between 4-19%, varying slightly according to each group. As of this year, the nation is extremely close to moving from a concentrated epidemic of HIV to a full epidemic because the rates are not stabilizing.
