Violence against women in any form, is endemic in communities and countries around the world; It cuts across class, race, age, religious and national boundaries. Djibouti believes violence against women threatens women's health and their social and economic well-being and realizes that some cultural traditions make conversations about women’s well-being difficult. Efforts are being made to legislate a major social change to combat lax laws and cultural practices. The UNHRC urged the government of Djibouti to effectively enforce laws aimed at protecting women from violence.
